Australian Citizenship (By Conferral) Person 60 Years Or Over

You can use this common way to become an Australian citizen.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I Include My Partner/Spouse And Child(ren) As Dependents For This Application?

Your partner/spouse and children (above the age of 15) cannot be added to your application as dependents. Each member of your family unit who wishes to apply for Australian citizenship must lodge their own applications and attend their own interviews and citizenship tests.

Children who are 15 years old or younger can be included as a dependent in your application at no additional cost. All applicants must be permanent residents, and meet the eligibility criteria to submit a citizenship application.

2. Do I Need To Sit For The Citizenship Test?

No, this is only a requirement if you are aged between 18 – 59 years old at the time of your application. You might still be required to attend an interview to confirm your identity or respond to the Department’s enquiries about your application.

3. What Is The Final Step Of This Application?

Most applicants for citizenship by conferral must attend a citizenship ceremony and make the Australian Citizenship Pledge. If you are not required to attend a ceremony, your citizenship certificate will be sent to you by registered post after the Department approves your application. This completes the process to become an Australian citizen.  You will receive your Australian citizenship certificate at your ceremony. You can then proceed to apply for an Australian passport, and enrol to vote in elections (for 18 years or older).
