Aged Parent Visa Subclass 804

This permanent visa lets an aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay in Australia.

Sponsor

  • You must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen settled in Australia. 
  • You must be 18 years old or older. You can sponsor one or more parents, if approved.
  • There are no costs involved when applying for sponsorship. You must agree that for the first 2 years the sponsored applicant is in Australia on this visa you will assist them, and any dependents who are granted the visa with them, with accommodation and financial support to meet their reasonable living needs. You will need to make your commitment in writing.
  • You can not withdraw as a sponsor after the grant of the visa, but if you do not comply with your sponsorship obligations for 2 years after the grant date, the visa may be cancelled.

1. Can I Apply For Medicare With This Visa?

No, you cannot enrol in Medicare if you have applied for this parent visa. You can enrol if you have either: 

  • applied for a Permanent Contributory Parent Visa, and have a Temporary Visa Subclass 173 or 884, OR
  •  been granted a Permanent Contributory Parent Visa Subclass 143 or 864.
